Laura works with a parent or parents in a collaborative process which helps them to share the frustrations and challenges that they are dealing with, connect with what is actually working despite the difficult dynamics, identify how they would ideally like things to function and then implement practical changes to help ensure they can enhance their family life.
Some focus areas in Laura’s practice include:
- Supporting parents to ensure they take better care of themselves
- Providing practical ideas on solving specific child related challenges.
- Helping single parents thrive.
- Navigating differing parenting styles
- Helping moms and dads stay loving parents through and post-divorce.
- Helping parents understand and set age appropriate boundaries.
- Assisting parents in connecting with their parenting values.
Laura has a practice in Vredehoek, Cape Town but is also happy meet with clients over skype.

Thanks again for all your input and advice. We are truly grateful that we could participate in this coaching series with you.
The series of coaching sessions were very useful. The warm yet professional atmosphere during our talks was conducive to an open dialogue. Your constructive and respectful approach enabled us to examine the difficulties we face honestly and positively. You reflected back the things we said in an insightful and useful way. The written summaries of our meetings were, and still are, a valuable tool for us.
Also your flexibility in the scheduling and mode (Skype) of our meetings was very helpful to us, in view of our chaotic schedules and the fact that we live abroad.
The sessions with Laura were valuable far beyond what I had initially expected and made a huge positive difference to the way I relate to and experience my children.
I was referred to Laura Markovitz for parent coaching and started meeting with her in August 2014. A total of 12 sessions followed over the course of the next 4 months.
During the first session Laura asked me to sketch what I would consider to be an ideal outcome to our sessions. I was quite idealistic in my description, however I was not really expecting any of my wishes to truly materialise.
Over the course of the weeks to follow Laura gave me small manageable tasks. These resulted in small shifts that had a cumulative effect and amounted to large changes in my family dynamic. I didn’t really realise it as it was happening but towards the end of our sessions I became aware that I had actually attained almost 3/4 of what was stated in my wish list at the outset. My close friends also observed and commented on the changed dynamic between my 2 sons and myself and the fact that I seemed more content and at ease in my role as a single parent.
