I believe that coaching provides a safe space for people to step out of their lives and really look at what is going on. This means they can now respond rather than react. As a coach I provide the space, some reflective tools and some relevant skills, but the shift really occurs as the client takes back their power of choice in whatever area of life they are seeking transformation.
My greatest watershed moment came in my 30’s when I came across the quote “do not ask yourself what the world needs, but ask yourself what makes you come alive, and go and do that, because what the world needs is people who have come alive.” Howard Thurman. This continues to be a reflective tool for me as I live a life of voluntary simplicity homesteading in the KZN Midlands.
My favourite books since my youth were about people overcoming life difficulties, physical or environmental. Pushing themselves out of their comfort zones in order to survive or to accomplish a dream. The inner journey as interesting to me as the physical. Edmund Hilary is supposed to have said something like, “within each of us is an Everest, it’s just not always a mountain.”
I have travelled a bit and had some adventures, pushed myself out of my comfort zones physically, emotionally and mentally and believe that in order to coach I need to keep challenging myself. After 9 years of nursing (4 in service training) I spent 6 years with an NGO in youth development and then qualified as a Life Coach in 2009. This finally felt like the perfect fit for me, helping people to navigate their challenges, but even more to identify and climb their “Everest’s”.
How I work
As I live in the KZN Midlands, much of my work is online. My process is driven by the client’s needs rather than a formulaic approach. Self-discovery is probably the bedrock of the process, identifying limiting patterns of behaviour, because although we all present with a seeming unique to the moment issue, invariably, if we look back, all of our obstacles in life are versions of the same thing. From identifying the obstacle, and clarifying the desired outcome coaching is about finding creative solutions to move forward. My passion is helping clients move from a stuck, trapped, critical of self or others feeling to a factual, creative and compassionate one.
My favourite tools include the Enneagram, Positive Intelligence and the Drama Triangle (Transactional Analysis). I have some awareness of neuro plasticity, processing styles and emotional intelligence.
I work with people in a place of transition. Discontent with their current situation, be that relational, vocational, environmental, these are people wanting to “come alive”. As a coach I provide a safe place in which to pause in the business of life and reflect. I use coaching tools to help you to think, challenge yourself, look at yourself more honestly and kindly and identify the small steps you can begin to take.

As a client of Fiona’s for six years, I can highly recommend her compassionate and knowledgeable skills as a coach. With Fiona’s support I have moved continent, pivoted in my career and gained great insight into my particular skill set and passions. She has been a complete gift in my life, enabling me to be more courageous in my choices and reminding me of my core values and goals within the process of change. This has led to wonderful opportunities and adventures. Having Fiona (who herself lives so authentically,) as a trusted life coach and ally with sage reflections and humorous understanding has added immensely to my life. Eidin

I highly recommend Fiona as a life coach, as working with her has honestly been life-changing for me. I wish I connected with her years ago. When I first reached out, I was feeling overwhelmed in my relationships and unsure of what I needed, let alone how to deal with challenges. From the very first session, Fiona made me feel safe, supported, and understood. She created a safe and non-judgmental space where I gained clarity about my own personality type. She helped me gain clarity around the impact of my own personality on my relationships and she helped me reconnect with my own sense of purpose and confidence. Thanks to her guidance, I’ve grown in ways I never thought possible.
Her insight, compassion, and ability to really listen helped me navigate some very challenging moments I’ve faced—both personally and in my relationships. She didn’t give me quick fixes or generic advice. Instead, she helped me gently uncover patterns I didn’t even realize were holding me back.
What’s really special about Fiona is how deeply she cares. You can feel it in the way she listens, the thoughtful questions she asks, and the way she remembers the little things that matter. She would also often check in afterwards to find out how you are. That was highly appreciated. I’ve come out of this process with more confidence, self-awareness, and peace than I’ve felt in years.
