Leadership and personal development coach
Michael is a founding partner of Distillery, a consultancy focused on improving organisational and leadership effectiveness. His time is split between consulting engagements and coaching. Michael’s been coaching leaders and teams in the public and private sector for almost 10 years.
The power of coaching lies in having a thought partner unattached to a particular outcome, whose sole focus is to deepen the client’s awareness of factors within themselves and others that impact a presenting issue. Working beneath the surface, Michael helps clients develop stronger foundations, enabling them to construct their own independent, creative, authentic responses to difficult situations.
Clients typically engage in a coaching process for one of two reasons; to resolve challenges (mitigate downside) or to enable performance improvement (maximise upside). While the motivations for each are different, the goal is always the same; expanding range to allow for choice.
Michael’s clients come from a broad range of sectors.
He specialises in three areas:
- Supporting leaders to improve team effectiveness
- Developing high performance partnerships for founders of small businesses
- Role and career transitions
Michael’s style is to work with what is present, acknowledging what’s working well, while using creativity, humour, candour and gentle pressure (relentlessly applied) to bring about change.
Michael is certified in Gestalt, Transaction Analysis & Enneagram coaching modalities, has an Applied Counselling certificate from the South African College of Applied Psychology, half a clinical psychology degree and a Bachelor of Business Science from the University of Cape Town.
His interests include Gestalt, Transactional Analysis, Jungian Psychology, Creative Process, Personal Story, Mythology, Modern Consciousness, Taoism & Motorcycle Adventures
