What I do

80% of people who consult a life coach do so with the intention of improving their financial situation. And so, my clear intention is to make your financial life understandable, achievable and fun as money is the key tool in the achievement of a good life.

In order to do this I coach financial planners (to better engage with their clients), entrepreneurs, business owners, sales teams and individuals to be the best they can be by using their own personal strengths and motivating factors to ensure that they enjoy their work. Earning more is only one part of it!

I use my financial background and expertise to help you maximize your earnings and use my coaching skills to show you how to reach those goals that stay just out of reach.

I have a 12 week coaching program which has a set structure:

  • This structure starts at the very beginning of the income process, which talks to WHY you want to make money. Only if you establish a personal connection with earning money in the way you do (which may change!) will you be motivated to earn more.
  • Once personal goals have been cemented, we move on to setting your own strategies on how to get there. We personalise this by tailoring whatever works for you.
  • Once strategies are set then we tailor the actions that will achieve the goals.
  • This program teaches you to think for yourself. I don’t tell you what to do, and the objective with that is to make you independent of me (or a sales manager) in achieving your targets and beyond for the rest of your life.
  • The final stage is the reward for achieving your goals. You might think that money is enough, but research shows that it is not! Each individual needs to cement what the extra cash will do for them in the process to make it a worthwhile goal to chase, with tangible rewards.

But since coaching is a personal journey, this program is not all that I offer – I will tailor a program to suit you. I also do workshops and talks.

Coaching is about a relationship where the total focus is on you, on what you want in your life, and on what will help you to achieve it. In this relationship I listen, not only to your words, but also to what's behind them. I listen to the very best in you, even when you can't hear it in yourself. You need to be motivated to be accountable and keep moving forward toward your dreams and goals. I love to discover what it is that makes you tick, what you value, what you are most passionate about in your life and then help you to clarify your goals and provide the tools for action and learning that lead to the results you want.

All of this is dealt with in a truthful and honest, open way without judgment and EVERYTHING is confidential.

I also have a website which gives out free advice, knowledge and information to empower people financially- go have a look – www.jillianhoward.com. This website lists my full spectrum of services, as well as my fees.

Some background on me

Financial planning and coaching has been in my blood for a very long time. Ages ago I worked as a deceased estates administrator. If you haven’t implemented proper financial planning in your lifetime, let me tell you: it all comes unglued at the edges when you die. On the upside I was able to wind up a few estates where proper financial planning was in place and witness the total relief of families that didn’t have financial stress (and all that it brings with it , like relocating, selling up etc) added to their grief. I learned a lot about talking to people about their finances right there.

Estate departments also look after assets under curatorship and trusts, and my exposure to the different asset types and their performances over the years (some records went back 30 odd years) started my intense curiosity with understanding how investments worked and impacted on wealth creation over time. Just like any other young, ambitious creature I wanted to make money in the best way possible and so decided to study “finances”. I wanted to help myself first and then transfer my knowledge to everyone, to prevent the confusion and heartache that I witnessed so often.

I studied long and hard (BCom, CFP) and worked even harder at various investment, insurance and banking institutions. When I thought I knew enough (from experience as well as academics), I became a Financial Planner. I loved being a planner and worked as one for many years. I did however notice that a great deal of fellow financial planners (or advisors, as they are sometimes called) seemed to struggle with some of the many aspects of this profession and I was keenly motivated to help them. Then I had the most wonderful luck to be employed in a new and exciting field – Financial Planning Coaching. Further studies in Results Coaching (ICF registered) ensued and the practical application of the 12 session process was awesome! I coached everyone in sight and we (I and they) were delighted with the insights, learning and personal growth. The financial planners I coached unblocked those kinks that were hampering their business and naturally their production increased, but so did their job satisfaction (yes I know more money will do that but I’m talking a bit deeper here!).

My next thought was “How can I cater to both planners and the general public?” and my answer is in my website (www.jillianhoward.com). All you have to do from here is take either the planner or the “normal people” route offered and let’s begin a new and mutually beneficial friendship.

I am available to coach nationally (and internationally) by skype, email or telephone and I am available for face to face coaching, workshops and talks. I prefer not to travel in order to minimize my carbon footprint (I use skype and teleconference facilities), but when I do I plant trees. I live on a small farm south of Johannesburg. My office is there, but I am not restricted to clients in Gauteng only.

Kipling is my previous surname (I’m a newlywed) and if you Google “Jillian Kipling” you will discover many articles I have had published online, in magazines and even the Sunday Times financial section. I am also working on a book, given my passion for helping people thrive financially and my love of writing.
