Gordon Hunkin
“My core motivation is to contribute to positive transformation in people’s lives and in organisations. This has been a common theme throughout my career,” says Gordon. “I have more than 20 years of both formal and informal experience in working with people to facilitate growth and transformation.
For me, coaching is a ‘coming alongside’ others to help them achieve more than they would on their own. As a coach I help people find their own measure of greatness and tackle the goals, the ongoing change and growth required to give the fullest possible expression to that. My personal style in coaching and facilitation is rooted in my passion to help people and is an intuitive style for me.”
“Leadership Development is a particular area of interest for me,” says Gordon. “Leaders have a key role to play in shaping the welfare of organisations and society. True and sustainable organisational transformation is only fully possible when people (most importantly, leaders) change. High impact interventions like coaching around Leadership Development, Performance and Transformation are arguably amongst the best means to facilitate this,” he says.
Gordon has a BA (English & Philosophy) from WITS and a Communication sub-major from UNISA. Although his degree is geared toward communications he has had a wonderfully varied working experience; one that has helped him nurture leadership, management, business and people skills. This includes a stint in the public sector, a great opportunity to help take a successful retail business to the next level, and a fulfilling season serving as a pastor. He also had the opportunity to launch and establish a dedicated publishing company for a multinational non-profit entity and served as MD of this company for seven years. He currently runs his own business (Transilience South Africa) that is focussed on delivering interventions that produce authentic transformation.
Gordon holds the Results Certification in Advanced Coaching Skills from Results Coaching Systems (RCS). His coach specific training includes the Intensive Coach Training course, Executive Coach Training, Team Coach Training and Life Skills Training. He has over 420 hours of coaching experience, mainly with clients in executive or senior positions in organisations like Sasol, Polyoak, BCX Sasol RO, Harmony Gold SCM, SABC and W&R SETA.
He is an Assistant Trainer and mentor with RCS and a member of the International Coaching Federation (ICF).
His skill set also includes the application and interpretation of the Human Synergistics International developmental diagnostics for Organisational Culture, Group Skills (teams), Leadership/Impact and their Life Styles Inventory.
Gordon has been married to Riana for 25 years and they have a 15 year old daughter, Jessica.
